The Hamburg PROTOTYP Automotive Museum originated from the idea of creating a prototype for future private automobile museums โ a lively place that, alongside the cars on display, also tells the stories of the people who conceived, built and drove these vehicles. Since 2008, around 50 selected vehicles from 80 years of automotive history have been on display on three floors of a historic factory building in Hamburgโs HafenCity. The main focuses are early Porsche designs, racing and sports cars from Germany and Austria from the early post-war period, as well as modern vehicles with a special history. Visitors can view the vehicles from different perspectives without separating barriers and discover many of their details. From brief information to digitally provided images and texts, the museum conveys stories relating to its motto โPeople. Power. Cars.โ The interactive offerings include the walk-in audio box, where engine sounds can be heard, a miniature wind tunnel, and a Porsche 356 converted into a driving simulator.
