Proserpine is a rural town located in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland, Australia. It is conveniently situated on the Bruce Highway, making it easily accessible for tourists traveling by road. The town is surrounded by natural beauty, with the Proserpine River flowing through it and the Clarke Range to the west. It is also close to the Dryander National Park to the north and the Conway National Park to the east.
One of the main industries in Proserpine is sugar production. A sugar mill was established in the town in 1897 and has since been modernised to become one of the most advanced sugar mills in the world. This heritage-listed site offers a unique insight into the town's history and its ongoing role in the sugar industry.
The Proserpine Entertainment Centre, located at 14 Main Street, is a key cultural hub in the town. It was recently rebuilt and reopened in March 2022, following damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017. The centre hosts a variety of events and performances, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
