The late Gothic Prälatenhaus is one of the oldest houses in Meissen and a monument of regional importance. This three-story building, built directly on the rock, is a significant part of the picturesque western view of the old town. Its late Gothic brick gable and the significant remains of late Gothic wall paintings contribute to its historical value.
The house features a late Gothic beam ceiling in the entrance hall and two panelled rooms with unique wall frescoes in several rooms, which show parallels to the Cranach workshop, possibly even originating from it. These paintings suggest connections to influential circles and are unique north of the Alps.
After the restoration with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection, the city of Meissen considers the building to be saved. However, the development of the building for public use remains a task.
