The Ice Architecture in Aragon is a collection of ice houses and wells, predominantly constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries. These structures were built with the purpose of preserving snow and obtaining ice during pre-industrial times. This unique architectural style offers a glimpse into the historical practices of the region, making it an interesting point of exploration for tourists.
In July 2021, the Government of Aragon recognized the significance of these ice houses and wells by declaring them a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC), in the category of monument. This recognition covers a list of these structures located in 58 enclaves across the three Aragonese provinces. This official recognition underscores the cultural and historical importance of these structures, making them a noteworthy site for tourists.
