The Postville Courthouse State Historic Site, located in Lincoln, Illinois, is a replica of the original county courthouse that was built in 1840. The original courthouse was later moved to Greenfield Village in Michigan. The current courthouse, built in 1953, closely resembles the original structure.
During the time when the Postville Courthouse was actively in use, Abraham Lincoln, who was then a young lawyer trying to establish his reputation, practiced law here. The state law of Illinois during that period did not promote specialization, hence Lincoln would have accepted any case for which he was hired.
In 1953, the state constructed a replica of the courthouse using the dimensions and data of the original building. This replica, which is furnished to resemble a courtroom from the 1840s, is the current Postville Courthouse State Historic Site.
