Originally, the Postgeschichtliche Museum was housed in a 16 m² area on the upper floor of Friesoythe's former post office. However, since 2004, the museum has been located in the former town hall “Stadtmitte”, boasting a larger exhibition area of 300 m².
The Postgeschichtliche Museum offers a comprehensive overview of the postal and telecommunications history from around 1750 to the present day. The exhibition comprises approximately 1000 exhibits, providing a rich insight into the evolution of these services.
The exhibits at the Postgeschichtliche Museum include optical telegraphs, a Morse apparatus from 1850, and various other devices that trace the development of telecommunications up to the advent of the smartphone.
In addition to telecommunication devices, the Postgeschichtliche Museum also showcases a post office from 1910, mailboxes from different eras, historical uniforms, photos, letters, and writings. These exhibits provide a glimpse into the past and the evolution of postal services.
