The Municipal Museum of Portalegre, established in 1918, houses a significant collection of Sacred Art. This collection forms the core of the museum's exhibits, offering visitors a glimpse into the religious and artistic history of the region.
The museum has had several homes throughout its history. Initially, it was housed in a room of the Town Hall. In 1932, it was moved to the church of the São Bernardo convent. In 1959, the museum found its current home in a 16th-century noble house next to the Cathedral, which had once served as the diocesan seminary.
