The Port of Humanity Tsuruga Museum is situated in Kanegasaki Park, Tsuruga, Fukui, Japan. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the history of Tsuruga Port. This port has played a significant role in connecting Japan to the Asian continent since early times, particularly from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. It served as a crucial departing point connecting Japan to the terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railroad at Vladivostok.
A significant part of the museum is dedicated to Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who saved the lives of many Jewish refugees during World War II. Despite being forbidden by his country, Sugihara issued over 2000 visas in one month, eventually saving over 6,000 lives. Tsuruga Port was the place where these refugees disembarked after their long journey from Europe.
