Planet Exotica is a commercial botanical garden situated in Royan, France. It spans across 7.6 hectares and is one of the last urban marshes on the Atlantic coast. The park is composed of various thematic spaces and attracts around 100,000 visitors annually.
Planet Exotica is renowned for its tropical greenhouses that house numerous orchids. The park also boasts an 1,800-year-old olive tree that was brought from Spain. These features contribute to the park's reputation and attract a significant number of visitors.
Planet Exotica is home to collections of orchids that are considered among the most important in Europe. Approximately 3,000 specimens grow under a large greenhouse where a tropical climate is recreated to ensure their development. The park also features a butterfly house with species from around the world, including the Attacus atlas, one of the largest butterflies in the world.
In addition to its botanical and butterfly collections, Planet Exotica also features a Japanese garden inspired by Buddhist and Shinto traditions, an English garden with intense green lawns and meticulously maintained flower beds, and a Mediterranean space with species from the 'great blue' perimeter, including lavender, palm trees, and oleanders.
