Pinacoteca di Brera is a gallery where visitors can admire one of the greatest collections of Italian paintings in the world. The artworks exhibited here range from renaissance to modern art and includes works of masters such as Raphael, Caravaggio or the Bellini brothers. Most of the art here is of religious nature. The Pinacoteca di Brera gallery is housed in Palazzo Brera, a Baroque palace, built over what remained of a Jesuit monastery that occupied the place before. In the courtyard of the museum is a bronze statue of Napoleon, who is the initiator of the Pinacoteca di Brera.

Recently,I spent a delightful day at the Brera Art Museum savoring its encyclopedic collection of Italian Paintings from the Medieval Period up to the end of the 19th Century. There is labelling of the works of Art in English as well as Italian. My favorite part of this art museum was its fine collection of Medieval Period Paintings from the 13th Century to 1425.I enjoyed awesome paintings by Master of San Verano(13th Century,Byzantine Characteristics),Barnaba Da Modena,Giovanni Baronzio("Scenes From Life of Saint Columba"),Ambrogio Lorenzetti("Virgin and Christ Child"),Bernardo Daddi("Saint Lawrence"),Giovanni Da Milano,Giovanni Da Bologna,Lorenzo Veneziano,Barttolomeo and Jacopino Da Reggio,Andrea di Bartolo and Andrea Di Giorgio, and Master of Misericordia("Evangelist Writing"),among others.I saw fine International Gothic Period Paintings by Pere Serra("Annunciation")and Gentile Da Fabriano("Crucifixion").I limited this review to Medieval Period Paintings, because its collection of Italian Paintings is so prodigious. The Brera also has a wonderful ambiance. So enjoy it to the fullest.
