The Philippe Cousteau Anchor Museum is an open-air museum situated in Salinas, within the Asturian council of Castrillón in Spain. This unique museum offers a different kind of museum experience as it is not confined within four walls. Instead, it is spread out in the open, allowing visitors to enjoy the exhibits while also taking in the beautiful surroundings.
One of the highlights of the Philippe Cousteau Anchor Museum is a series of steel sculptures called Sails. These sculptures, designed and painted by Lucio Marcos Pernia, are placed next to each anchor and depict various marine and nautical motifs. This artistic touch adds a unique element to the museum and enhances the overall experience for visitors.
The Philippe Cousteau Anchor Museum is dedicated to the memory of Philippe Cousteau, the son of the famous oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Philippe Cousteau, who followed in his father's footsteps as a renowned marine conservationist, tragically died in 1979 at the age of 38. The museum serves as a tribute to his life and work, and his passion for the sea and its conservation.
