The National Petroleum Museum is situated in the General Mosconi neighborhood of Comodoro Rivadavia, in the Chubut province of Argentina. This location is significant as it is the site of the historic Well No. 2, where the first state oil gush was discovered on December 13, 1907. The museum was built by YPF, the state oil company, and is considered one of the three largest in the world in terms of its content, alongside those in Russia and the United States.
The National Petroleum Museum spans a total surface area of 10,000 m². This includes a machinery park of 9,512 m² and the main building which covers 488 m². The museum showcases the processes of hydrocarbon formation, stages of exploration, drilling, and oil extraction, historical aspects, among others. In its gardens, it houses valuable pieces such as machinery, equipment, and tools from the early 20th century.
