The park covers an area of 34 hectares and offers a unique combination of natural beauty and wildlife. It was established in 1962 with the aim of preserving a core of dry forest and some endemic species in the heart of the city.
The park is home to over 700 animals representing more than 130 species, with a focus on birds, through 110 species. These animals include a large part of endemic species, but also species from the rest of the world, with a priority for animals from the Asia-Pacific region. The animals are housed in enclosures or open spaces along pedestrian paths, and particularly around three artificial lakes.

Parc Zoologique et Forestier has 1 rating.
The Parc Zoologique et Forestier in Noumea, France, offers visitors a chance to experience local wildlife and nature. The park features a variety of native animals, including birds, reptiles, and mammals, with a focus on species from New Caledonia. Visitors appreciate the natural setting and the opportunity to see endemic creatures up close. The park's walking trails through the forest are enjoyable for many, providing a pleasant escape from the city.
However, some visitors note that the park could benefit from improvements. The enclosures for some animals are considered small by modern zoo standards, and some guests feel that certain areas need renovation or better maintenance. The educational content and signage are sometimes criticized for being limited, particularly for non-French speakers.
Despite these drawbacks, many visitors find the park to be a worthwhile stop, especially for its affordable entry fee and its role in conservation efforts for local species. The park's location on a hill also offers nice views over parts of Noumea.
Overall, the Parc Zoologique et Forestier provides a modest but authentic glimpse into New Caledonian wildlife, though it may not meet the expectations of those used to larger, more modern zoos.
