The Ortahisar Ethnography Museum is a unique private institution located in the town of Ortahisar, Nevşehir, which is part of the Ürgüp region. The museum is known for its vivid depiction of the lifestyle of the Cappadocia region through the use of mannequins. This makes it a fascinating destination for tourists interested in learning about the local culture and history.
The Ortahisar Ethnography Museum consists of 12 rooms, each showcasing different aspects of local life and culture. Visitors can explore exhibits on the transformation of rocks into churches and houses, agricultural life and tools, molasses production, and the process of obtaining yarn from wool. The museum also features displays on carpet and rug weaving, printing techniques, and a Turkish bath. Additionally, there are exhibits on traditional social customs such as asking for a girl's hand in marriage, henna night, and the bridal room.
The buildings housing the Ortahisar Ethnography Museum were created by restoring the town's old municipal service building and its first tourist hotel, which had fallen into disrepair. This restoration work has not only preserved important historical structures but also provided a unique setting for the museum's exhibits. For the convenience of visitors, the museum also features a restaurant and a cafeteria.
