Old Slater Mill and its collection

Old Slater Mill
Source

The Slater Mill, located on the banks of the Blackstone River in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is a historic water-powered textile mill complex. Its design was inspired by the cotton spinning mills that were first established in England. This mill holds a significant place in the history of American industry as it was the first of its kind in the country.

Current Use of Slater Mill Site

Today, the Slater Mill site serves multiple purposes. It is a museum, an educational center, and a music venue that celebrates innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit. The site spans five acres of land on both sides of the Blackstone River and includes a dam on the river, two historic mills (the Slater Mill and Wilkinson Mill), and the Sylvanus Brown House, which was built in 1758 and moved to the site in the 1960s.
