The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Oslo was closed on October 16, 2016, to become part of the new Norwegian National Museum. The collections were moved to the National Museum at Vestbanen, where the collection from the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design has been available since 2022. This move has allowed for a more comprehensive display of the museum's collections.
The collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Oslo included a wide range of items. These included older textile art with the national treasure Baldishol tapestry, Norwegian silver, faience and glass from the 18th century, and royal costumes from 1896 onwards. These collections provide a comprehensive overview of the history and development of decorative arts and design in Norway and internationally.
