The other day,I was fortunate enough to enjoy the special"Art and Life In Rembrandt's Time;Masterpieces From The Leiden Collection"Art Exhibit.This exhibit runs at the Norton from October 25th ,2025 until March 29th,2026.The Leiden Collection based in New York City is the largest private collection of 17th Century Dutch Master Paintings in the United States.This exhibit features outstanding paintings by leading Dutch Masters including 17 paintings by Rembrandt Van Rijn including;"Self Portrait With Shaded Eyes",Portrait of Man With Red Coat",,and "Minerva",among others.It also features splendid paintings by following painters associated with the Dutch city of Leiden including;Jan Lievens("Card Players",a fine exemplar of Dutch Mannerism),Jan Steen("Self Portrait With Lute,Sense of Hearing"),Isaac de Joudreville("Portrait of Rembrandt With Oriental Dress"),Gerrit Dou("Scholar Sharpening Quill"),Frans Van Mieris("Elderly Couple In An Interior"),and Gabriel Metsu("Elegant Lady Writing At Her Desk") Top Ten Favorites produced by other Dutch Masters included;Johannes Vermeer's"Young Woman Seated In A Virginal"(the only Vermeer painting in an American Private Art Collection),Hendrick Ter Bruggen's"Allegory of Faith",Gottfried Schalcken's"Parable of Last Piece of Silver",Frans Hals'"Portrait of Samuel Ampzing"(marvelous light effects in this small painting),Cornelis De Man's"Portrait of a Pharmacist in an Interior",Michiel Van Musscher's"Portrait of Artist in Studio",,Carel Fabritus'"Hagar and the Angel"(Judaic theme),Ferdinand Bol's"Self Portrait Behind Parapet",Eglon Van Neer's"Woman Playing Lute",and Jacob Octervelt's"Singing Violinist". As usual,I enjoyed fine 19th and 20th paintings produced by leading European and American Painters in the Norton's permanent collection.Among those with stellar paintings were;Claude Monet,Camille Pissarro,Paul Gauguin,Pablo Picasso,Henri Matisse,Marc Chagall,Edward Hopper,Georgia O'Keefe,and Stuart Davis.
