Neumünster Zoo, situated in the region of Schleswig-Holstein, is home to approximately 700 animals. These animals represent a diverse range of 100 different species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. The zoo is spread over a 24-hectare area, much of which is forested, providing a natural habitat for the animals.
Neumünster Zoo is actively involved in 17 European conservation breeding programs, demonstrating its commitment to animal conservation. The zoo is particularly renowned for its success in the keeping and breeding of European bison, a species that has faced significant threats in the past.
Over the years, Neumünster Zoo has expanded its concept to include a wider range of species. Today, visitors can see animals such as polar bears, Barbary macaques, and Humboldt penguins, adding to the diversity of the zoo's animal population.
