Source

Built in the 19th century, the Neue Synagoge Berlin has had a rough history, being damaged on several occasions. Due to its Moorish Revival style, it is fairly similar to a well-known Spanish palace, Alhambra. You are welcome to visit services that are still held here and to explore its museum. In selected months, the dome can also be accessed. The permanent exhibition in the Centrum Judaicum is called "Open ye the Gates" that tells the story of the building and the life associated with it. With its documents and exhibits, it gives an impression of the diverse forms that Jewish life took in this part the city.

The Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum is a significant historical site and museum in Berlin, Germany. Located on Oranienburger Straße, it stands as a testament to Jewish history and culture in the city. The building, with its striking golden dome, is a partially reconstructed version of the original New Synagogue, which was badly damaged during World War II.

Visitors often appreciate the beautiful architecture, particularly the restored facade and the impressive dome. The exhibition inside provides an informative look into the history of Jewish life in Berlin, the synagogue's past, and its importance to the local Jewish community. Many find the displays well-curated and engaging, offering insights into both joyful and tragic aspects of Jewish history in Germany.

The museum does a commendable job of presenting historical artifacts, documents, and multimedia exhibits. Guests frequently mention the moving experience of seeing the preserved remnants of the original synagogue and learning about its survival through different historical periods.

Some visitors note that while the exhibition space is not extremely large, the content is rich and thought-provoking. The audio guide, available in multiple languages, is often recommended for a more in-depth understanding of the exhibits.

On the downside, a few visitors mention that some parts of the building are not accessible due to ongoing restoration work. Additionally, some feel that more context could be provided about contemporary Jewish life in Berlin.

Overall, the Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum offers a valuable and educational experience for those interested in Jewish history and culture in Germany. It serves as an important memorial and educational center, though it may not be as extensive as some larger museums in the city.
