The museum and its accompanying botanical garden are situated at Gimle Farm. The museum is housed in the farm's outbuilding, while the surrounding park serves as the botanical garden. The main building at Gimle Farm is also a museum, forming part of the Vest-Agder Museum.

Main Exhibition and Highlights

The main exhibition at the museum dates back to the early 90s and focuses on the Agder counties. One of the highlights is the 'from ice age to present' exhibition, which takes visitors on a journey from the previous interglacial period, through the last ice age, and up to the present day. This exhibition places a particular emphasis on the last 10,000 years, showcasing Norwegian animals in their natural habitats, as well as minerals and rocks from different periods.

Botanical Garden and its Collections

The botanical garden is a significant part of the museum, housing its living scientific collections. It features both indoor and outdoor facilities, making it a versatile space for exploration. The garden is one of only six botanical gardens in Norway and includes all the green areas surrounding the museum, even extending to the forest area behind the museum. It boasts a variety of plant collections, offering a rich and diverse experience for visitors.
