Since December 12, 2014, the building that once housed the CosmoCaixa Madrid has been home to the National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT). The museum was previously located in Paseo de las Delicias, Madrid. The relocation was the result of an agreement between the mayor of Alcobendas and the CSIC.
The museum building, designed by architects Robert and Esteve Terrades, covers an area of approximately 7,000 square meters. Currently, the museum spans 12,000 m², distributed over three floors connected by circular ramps. These ramps surround the exhibition halls, which cover more than 2,500 m² of the total surface area.
The museum consists of five main areas inherited from its time as CosmoCaixa. These include temporary exhibitions, the permanent exhibition, the auditorium, the digital Planetarium, and a large adjacent park-garden. The park-garden contains samples of rocks from all over the Iberian Peninsula.
One of the museum's exterior features is the digital Planetarium. This facility uses 3D images projected onto a semi-spherical screen of 10 meters in diameter. The Planetarium is visible on the building's rooftop, appearing as a domed metallic structure.
