A large part of the collection consists of objects related to ancient Egypt. Unique is the two thousand year old Egyptian temple in the central hall of the museum. Besides ancient Egypt, the museum covers the Middle East, the Classical world and the early history of the Netherlands. The National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, Netherlands, offers visitors a comprehensive journey through ancient civilizations. The museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from Egypt, the Near East, Greece, and Rome. Many visitors appreciate the well-organized exhibits and the clear information provided, making it accessible for both history enthusiasts and casual visitors.

The Egyptian collection is often cited as a highlight, featuring an authentic Egyptian temple and numerous mummies, sarcophagi, and other artifacts. The Near Eastern section, including items from ancient Persia and Mesopotamia, also receives praise for its depth and variety.

The museum's layout is generally considered user-friendly, allowing for a chronological exploration of different cultures. Interactive displays and multimedia presentations enhance the learning experience, especially for younger visitors. The museum also offers audio guides in multiple languages, which many find helpful for a more in-depth understanding of the exhibits.

Some visitors note that certain areas of the museum can feel a bit crowded during peak times, and a few mention that more seating areas would be appreciated for rest between exhibits. Additionally, while the information is generally good, some visitors suggest that even more detailed explanations would be welcome for certain artifacts.

The museum's temporary exhibitions are often well-received, bringing fresh perspectives and new artifacts to complement the permanent collection. The gift shop offers a range of interesting items related to ancient history, though some find the prices a bit high.

Overall, the National Museum of Antiquities provides a rich and educational experience for those interested in ancient history and archaeology. Its extensive collection and well-presented exhibits make it a valuable cultural institution in Leiden.
