Museum St. Laurentius and its collection

The Museum St. Laurentius in Duisburg-Rheinhausen-Eisenbahnsiedlung presents in a permanent exhibition the artistic estate of Sándor Szombatis (1951 – 2006). The work of the Hungarian artist, whose studio was located in Rheinhausen-Friemersheim until his death, primarily comprises sound, magnetic, and gravitational objects; it has been shown in museums, art associations, and galleries in Germany and Italy and is held in various museums and private collections. The annual special exhibitions typically showcase rediscovered artists of the "lost generation" – those who began their careers in the Republic of Weimar and were mostly forgotten after the World War II. The curators track down their paintings and trace their biographies. A catalogue is published to accompany each exhibition.
