Herrenhausen Palace was originally a Baroque building from the 17th century. As a result of the air raids on the city of Hannover during the Second World War, the main building burned down completely. The façade of the classical castle was reconstructed and a convention center and museum were established and opened in 2013. The exhibition in the east wing thematizes the emergence of the Herrenhäuser summer residence and its significance for the state in the Baroque era. Garden design as an expression of Baroque culture is presented in the hallway. The exhibition in the west wing is dedicated to the history of Herrenhausen Gardens since 1760

The museum is housed in a reconstructed baroque palace, which adds to its historical ambiance. Visitors appreciate the well-curated exhibits that showcase the royal family's history, art collections, and the development of the Herrenhausen Gardens.
The museum's strengths lie in its informative displays and the connection it provides between the palace's history and the famous gardens. Many visitors find the multimedia presentations engaging and helpful in understanding the context of the exhibits. The reconstruction of the palace itself is often praised for its attention to detail and architectural beauty.
However, some visitors note that the museum is relatively small and can be explored rather quickly. A few reviewers mention that they would have appreciated more extensive information in languages other than German, although basic information is generally available in English.
