The Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) is a technology and transport museum located in the Western Springs suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It was established in 1960 by a group of interest associations that had come together in 1957 to collect and preserve historical tram vehicles and railway locomotives. The museum was opened in 1964 and is home to a wide range of land vehicles and aircraft, many of which are still maintained by volunteers.

Collection of Land Vehicles and Technology Exhibits

The museum's collection includes land vehicles such as railway vehicles, trams, tractors, carriages, about 100 motor vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, police and fire vehicles, electrical devices, and exhibits related to space travel. These collections provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of transport and technology over the years. The museum also houses the historical vehicle collection of the New Zealand Police until 2011.

Aircraft Collection and Historical Railway Line at the Second Location

The second location of MOTAT mainly houses the aircraft collection. There is also a several hundred meters long railway line on the site, which is operated with historical trains that are hauled by steam locomotives. The site also features historical buildings from the colonial era arranged into a village street. The Sir Keith Park Memorial Aviation Collection, part of the aircraft collection, was opened in a new exhibition hall on September 9, 2011. The hall also serves as a memorial for New Zealand soldiers who fell in air warfare during World War II.
