The Museum of the Landing and Salerno Capital is situated in the Gallotta Institute on General Mark Clark Street in Salerno. This location is easily accessible and provides a historical backdrop for the museum's exhibits. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of the region while exploring the museum's collections.
The permanent exhibition at the Museum of the Landing and Salerno Capital was created by the "Parco della Memoria della Campania" association. The exhibition aims to preserve the memory of the events that occurred on the Salerno coast during one of the most significant amphibious operations of the Second World War, when over 200,000 Allied soldiers landed on September 9, 1943. Visitors can gain a deeper understanding of these historical events through the museum's exhibits.
The Museum of the Landing and Salerno Capital houses around 200 exhibits from the "Parco della Memoria della Campania" association's collection. These include unpublished videos of the landing, photographs, medals, uniforms of the German and American army, objects, weapons, an M4 Sherman tank, a Willys jeep, and a lead-sealed railway wagon used by the Nazis to deport Italian Jews to concentration camps. This railway wagon was added to the exhibition on the occasion of the memory day on January 27, 2013. These exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the historical events that took place during this period.
