The Museum of the Great Rivers, housed in the former Monastery of the Olivetans in Rovigo, offers a unique journey through 3500 years of history. The museum uses innovative and interactive methods to present the history of the Middle and Upper Polesine territory. It is part of the Polesine Provincial Museum System and its name recalls the civilizations of the past that developed along the banks of the major European rivers.
The Museum of the Great Rivers distinguishes itself with its choice of scenic installations, three-dimensional reconstructions, and reproductions of ancient materials. These elements accompany the artifacts displayed in the showcases, providing a broader view of the history linked to the unique environmental conditions of the land between the last stretches of the Adige and Po rivers. This approach allows visitors to understand the relationship between this region and the great European civilizations.
The Museum of the Great Rivers was established in 1998 and opened to the public on April 20, 2001. The first section to be presented was dedicated to the Bronze Age. This was followed by the opening of the Iron Age and the Roman Age sections in 2002. The Middle Ages and Renaissance sections were later inaugurated in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Each section provides a comprehensive view of the respective era, offering visitors a chronological journey through history.
