The Museum of Virreinal Art, also known as Casa Humboldt, is a baroque style museum located in Taxco de Alarcón. The museum is historically significant as it was the residence of the Prussian scientist Alexander von Humboldt in the year 1803. This adds a layer of historical and cultural significance to the museum, making it an interesting destination for tourists interested in both art and history.

The Museum's Collection

Casa Humboldt was officially converted into a museum on May 8, 1992. The primary reason for this transformation was to provide a space for the collection of sacred art that was discovered in the Temple of Santa Prisca de Taxco in 1988. This collection adds to the museum's appeal for tourists, particularly those with an interest in religious art.
