The Regional Museum of Modern Art, also known as MURAM, is a contemporary art museum situated in the city of Cartagena, in the region of Murcia, Spain. This museum is a significant cultural landmark in the city, offering visitors a chance to explore a wide range of modern and contemporary art.
MURAM is housed in a beautifully renovated old building, designed by the architect Martín Lejárraga. It is located adjacent to the modernist Aguirre Palace, a restored property that is also included in the MURAM ticket. This provides visitors with an opportunity to appreciate not only the art exhibits but also the architectural beauty of these two buildings.
At present, MURAM only hosts temporary exhibitions. The museum is awaiting the start of construction for its extension by the Government of the Region of Murcia. This extension will house the 'Marifí Plazas' painting collection, which consists of numerous avant-garde Spanish art paintings. This indicates the museum's future plans to expand its offerings and continue to showcase a diverse range of modern and contemporary art.
