The Museum of History Industry (MOHAI) is a significant historical institution located in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. As the largest private heritage organization in the state, it boasts a collection of nearly four million artifacts, photographs, and archival materials. Keynote Exhibits at MOHAI
At any given time, approximately 2% of MOHAI's extensive collection is on display in the museum's galleries, located in the historic Naval Reserve Armory in Lake Union Park. Among the museum's keynote exhibits are Boeing's first commercial plane, the 1919 Boeing B-1, the Petticoat Flag (a U.S flag sewn by women during the 1856 Battle of Seattle), and the Rainier Brewing Company's 12-foot tall neon 'R' sign. These exhibits offer a unique insight into the region's history.
MOHAI's Accreditations
MOHAI is recognized and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a prestigious organization that sets standards for museums across the United States. Additionally, MOHAI is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, one of the world's foremost museum and research complexes. These affiliations underscore the museum's commitment to preserving and presenting history to the public.
The Bezos Center for Innovation at MOHAI
On October 11, 2013, MOHAI opened a significant addition to the museum, the Bezos Center for Innovation. This project was made possible by a generous $10 million donation from Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. The center is dedicated to the spirit of innovation and creativity that has defined the Seattle region and its people.
