The Mabilon Bell Foundry in Saarburg is a historic site with a rich family history dating back to 1590. The Mabilon family, originally from Saumur on the Loire, has owned and operated the foundry for centuries, passing down the art of bell casting from generation to generation.
In 1770, Urbanus Mabilon established the foundry as a permanent casting site in Saarburg. This marked a significant milestone in the family's history and the development of the bell casting industry in the region.
Today, the foundry is preserved as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the historic art of bell casting. Since 2012, the museum has been hosting a unique Steampunk Christmas market, adding a modern twist to its centuries-old tradition.
