Museum de Heksenwaag is housed in the city's former weigh house. The museum illustrates the story of the witch trials and the Oudewater Weigh house. The story is illustrated by an exhibition, audio visual presentations including an AI-installation and the original scales (1482). For children there is a very interesting questionnaire.. By stepping on the scales, the visitor can receive a ‘Certificaet of Weginghe’.

Museum de Heksenwaag has 1 rating.
Museum de Heksenwaag in Oudewater, Netherlands, offers visitors an intriguing look into the dark history of witch hunts. Located in a 16th-century building, the museum centers around the original weighing house where accused witches were once weighed to prove their innocence. The museum provides an educational experience, explaining the historical context of witch trials and the role of the Oudewater weighing house in providing fair trials during a time of widespread hysteria.
Visitors appreciate the museum's informative exhibits and the opportunity to be "weighed" on a replica of the original scale. The staff is often praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm in sharing the history. Many find the experience both educational and thought-provoking, offering insights into a lesser-known aspect of European history.
However, some visitors note that the museum is relatively small and can be explored quite quickly. The content might not be suitable for young children due to the subject matter. A few reviewers mention that additional context or more extensive exhibits could enhance the experience.
Despite its compact size, most visitors find the Museum de Heksenwaag to be a worthwhile stop when in Oudewater, particularly for those interested in historical oddities or the history of witch trials. The unique nature of the museum and its historical significance generally outweigh its limitations, making it a memorable part of a visit to this Dutch town.
