The Museu do Universo, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a museum dedicated to the field of astronomy. It was inaugurated in 1970 and is the second museum in Brazil dedicated to this scientific discipline. The museum is situated at 100 Vice-Governador Rubens Berardo street in the Gávea neighborhood.
The Museu do Universo features two domes for simulating astronomical events: the Carl Sagan and the Galileo Galilei. The Carl Sagan dome can accommodate 263 people and houses the Universarium VIII – TD planetarium model. The Galileo Galilei dome can host 90 visitors and features the digital Barco/RSA Cosmos planetarium model.
Throughout the year, the Museu do Universo hosts a variety of activities aimed at promoting astronomy, related sciences, and cultural events. These activities attract approximately 160,000 visitors annually. The museum also features 56 interactive astronomy experiments that occupy the entire ground floor.
