The Museu do Tropeiro is situated in Castro, a city nestled in the interior of the state of Paraná. This location provides a unique setting for the museum, offering visitors a chance to explore the history of the region while immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the tropeiro, or muleteer, who traversed the Campos Gerais region in the 18th century.
The Museu do Tropeiro is housed in one of the first houses of Castro, which once belonged to the Carneiro Lobo family, prominent farmers from Jaguariaíva. This historical building, constructed in a period architectural style using stucco, adds to the authenticity of the museum experience, allowing visitors to step back in time and gain a deeper understanding of the tropeiro's life and work.
The Museu do Tropeiro boasts a collection of two thousand and five hundred pieces, ranging from typical clothing and trappings to the cangalha (a type of saddle used by muleteers) and work instruments of the tropeiro. These artifacts provide a comprehensive look at the life and work of the pioneers who explored the interior of Brazil and founded numerous cities, including Castro itself, which was on the Tropeiros Route between Viamão and Sorocaba.
