The Taminango Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions of Nariño, also known as the Taminango house, is a significant cultural institution in Colombia. It is located in the city of San Juan de Pasto and operates in a building that dates back to the 17th century. This building was declared a national monument in 1971, further emphasizing its historical and cultural importance.
The Taminango Museum is dedicated to showcasing the traditional artisanal processes of the region. It also houses a Greek type press used by Dr. Leopoldo López Álvarez to publish bilingual versions of Greek classics. Visitors can also view samples of his work, providing a unique insight into the region's cultural and literary history.
The Taminango Museum exhibits approximately 860 pieces that represent various artisanal processes. These include the varnish of Pasto, sculpture, wood carving and turning, woolen fabrics, straw toquilla and cabuya, leather items, horn and bone, stone carving, gobelins, and doll making. This diverse collection provides visitors with a comprehensive overview of the region's rich artisanal traditions.
