The Museo Regional de Querétaro is situated in the historic center of Santiago de Querétaro, the capital city of the state of Querétaro. The museum is housed in a building that was formerly known as the Convento Grande de San Francisco.
The Museo Regional de Querétaro consists of six rooms, each dedicated to one of five themes. The museum's exhibits focus on the cultures that inhabited the state before the Spanish conquest, in a broader area known as north-central Mexico, which includes the semi-desert, the valleys, and the Sierra Gorda.
The Museo Regional de Querétaro houses a Conventual Library, which is available for consultation by specialist researchers. The museum also features two rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Guided tours can be arranged by appointment, and the museum also hosts conferences and workshops. Additionally, the museum has an auditorium for concerts and theater performances, and a gift shop.
