The Museo Diocesano di Pesaro is housed in the Seminary building, which was constructed in 1788 by architects Gianandrea Lazzarini and Giovanni Antinori. The museum is conveniently located opposite the cathedral of the city of Pesaro, making it easily accessible for visitors.
The Museo Diocesano di Pesaro is divided into six large rooms, spread across the ground floor and the ancient basements of the building. The museum is organized into two sections: the first section is of an archaeological nature, consisting of three rooms, and the second section is of a historical-cultural type, consisting of six rooms. The presence of religious artifacts is particularly prominent in the museum.
The Museo Diocesano di Pesaro showcases a variety of significant works. These include the sarcophagus of San Decenzio di Ginestreto, dating back to the VIII century, with clear Lombard influences in the decoration; fragments of the original mosaic carpet of the nearby cathedral, dating back to the IV century, from the early Christian era; a very rare Byzantine ivory pyx from the VI century, likely of Ravenna origins; and numerous wooden statues from the Renaissance and Baroque Pesarese and Urbinate period.
