The Museum Building

The building that houses the Museo didattico della Seta di Como was constructed between 1968 and 1975. Architects Lorenzo Muzio and Franco Tartaglino, who won a public competition, designed the building. This new structure was intended to serve as a more prestigious headquarters for Como's textile school, replacing the original one from 1908.

The Museum's Location and Its Historical Significance

The Museo didattico della Seta di Como is situated in an area of Como that was a hub for textile companies from the mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. The proximity of the Cosia stream provided these companies with an abundant source of hydraulic energy, contributing to the area's industrial growth.
