The Museo dell'arte ceramica, or the Ceramic Art Museum, is situated in the picturesque cloister of the former convent of the Romanesque church of San Tommaso in Ascoli Piceno. This museum, which was inaugurated on June 1, 2007, offers a unique blend of history and artistry, making it a fascinating destination for tourists.
The Museo dell'arte ceramica boasts rich collections, which have been granted on deposit by the Carisap Foundation and the Matricardi family. In addition to the collections, the museum also features a well-equipped workshop complete with a lathe and kilns. This provides a unique insight into the process of ceramic creation, adding an extra layer of interest for visitors.
The Museo dell'arte ceramica is divided into five sections, each preserving ceramics of the ancient Ascoli tradition. The exhibits range from archaic majolica basins dating back to the 15th century to 20th-century productions. The museum showcases a variety of ceramic items, including vases, plates, urns, coffee makers, and cups. These pieces were made in the nineteenth century by the Paci manufacture and in the first half of the twentieth century by the Matricardi and Fama manufactures.
