The Museo del Latte e della storia della Muggiasca (MUU) is an ethnographic museum situated in Vendrogno, Bellano in the Province of Lecco. The museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history, traditions, and customs of Muggiasca, an ancient name that defines the territory of Vendrogno and its surroundings. It provides a unique insight into the local culture and way of life.
Established in June 2008, the Museo del Latte e della storia della Muggiasca is located in the heart of Vendrogno, in the premises of a former dairy that was renovated in 2007. The museum is managed by the association “Insieme per il Museo di Vendrogno”, under the leadership of director Dario Rusconi.
The Museo del Latte e della storia della Muggiasca is housed in the spaces of a former dairy that was used for the processing and transformation of milk for almost a century. The museum building comprises six exhibition rooms and a civic and conference room, spread across three floors.
The museum's six rooms are structured to facilitate four distinct itineraries: The transformation of milk, The forest, the fields, the stable, The house and women's work, and Episodes of the history of Muggiasca. These itineraries provide a comprehensive understanding of the local culture, economy, and history.
The first four rooms of the museum allow visitors to understand all the stages of milk transformation. The process includes reception and weighing, skimming, butter formation, cheese making, and finally, conservation and maturation. This provides a detailed insight into the traditional dairy production process.
