The Yaquis Museum, located in the town of Cócorit, Sonora, is a cultural space that offers a comprehensive insight into the Yaqui people's culture and history. The museum consists of 11 thematic rooms, each dedicated to a different aspect of the Yaqui culture, including their worldview, territory, traditional festivals, music and dance, ethnography, government, medicine, and daily life. The exhibits span from the origins of the Yaqui people to the 20th century, highlighting their periods of struggle and survival.
The Yaquis Museum offers a Guided Visits program, which is particularly beneficial for school groups, organized civil society groups, professionals, or companies. The museum also provides courses and workshops on art, crafts, and the Yaqui language for various audiences. Additionally, it hosts conferences, analysis and reflection sessions, and book presentations. Guided tours are primarily offered in Spanish and Yaqui, with the electronic equipment programmed in these two languages. However, in special cases, tours can be conducted in English and French.
Beyond its permanent exhibition housed in 11 thematic rooms, the Yaquis Museum also features a temporary exhibition room. This space showcases cultural, artistic, and religious expressions of the Yaqui people and other Sonoran ethnic groups. The museum also houses a cafeteria that serves traditional Yaqui food to visitors. Additionally, a large patio is available for various cultural and artistic activities.
