El Museo de la Moda, located in Vitacura, Santiago, Chile, is a private institution that specializes in the collection, preservation, and exhibition of clothing items. These items have been either donated or acquired at international auctions, making the museum's collection unique and diverse. The museum was inaugurated in July 2007 by the Museo de la Moda Foundation, which was established in 1999 by Jorge Yarur Bascuñán.
The collection of El Museo de la Moda began to take shape in 1999 with the legacy of Jorge Yarur Bascuñán's parents. This legacy consisted of clothing and decorative arts from the 1950s and 1960s. The collection is divided into four major sectors: the Documentary Collection, Decorative Arts Collection, Textile Collection, and Accessories Collection. The museum currently houses an important and unique collection of textiles, costumes, and accessories belonging to Western culture from the last four centuries.
In 2011, The New York Times highlighted the Museo de la Moda as one of the main attractions of Santiago. This recognition was given in the context of the newspaper's ranking of the most interesting cities to visit in 2011. The museum was again mentioned by The New York Times in 2013 in the article 'Fashion Museums Are à La Mode'.
