The Museo de Historia Natural, a natural history museum, is located in the second section of the Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City. The museum aims to provide its visitors with a summary of the history of the universe, Earth, and human beings through its exhibits. It was originally founded in 1790 as a cabinet of natural history, which were the precursors to modern museums.
The museum features six exhibition rooms. From 1931 to 1963, the central nave of the then National Museum of Natural History housed a reproduction of the Diplodocus carnegiei. This dinosaur was discovered by William Reed in Wyoming, Utah, in 1899. The replica was a significant attraction for visitors during that period.
