The Museo de Arquitectura Maya Baluarte de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad in Campeche, Mexico, offers visitors an informative look into Mayan architecture and the colonial history of the region. Located within a restored 17th-century bastion, the museum itself is a piece of history. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved exhibits showcasing Mayan architectural elements, including stelae, altars, and decorative pieces from various archaeological sites.
The museum's layout is compact but well-organized, allowing for an efficient exploration of Mayan building techniques and architectural styles. Many reviewers note that the bilingual explanations (Spanish and English) are helpful, though some mention that more detailed information would enhance the experience.
A highlight for many is the opportunity to climb to the top of the bastion, offering panoramic views of Campeche's historic center and the Gulf of Mexico. This feature adds value to the visit, combining historical learning with scenic appreciation.
Some visitors find the museum somewhat small, wishing for more extensive exhibits. However, most agree that the quality of the artifacts and the unique setting in a colonial fortification make up for the limited size.
