The Museo Civico Goffredo Bellini, situated in Asola in the province of Mantova, is a historical treasure house. The collection, donated by the Asolan collector Goffredo Bellini (1870-1947), provides a comprehensive view of history spanning from prehistoric times to the 20th century. The museum's exhibits are organized chronologically and thematically, making it easy for visitors to navigate through the millennia of history.
The collection of the Museo Civico Goffredo Bellini is diverse and rich, encompassing various fossil materials, stone, wood, ceramics, and prehistoric testimonies of the territory. Notable exhibits include an Egyptian stele from 2134-2040 BC, an Attic cup with black figures from the end of the 6th century BC, burial outfits of the Celts and Etruscans, and thin-walled Roman ceramic artifacts. The museum also houses recent donations of archaeological finds and paintings, continually enriching its collection.
The Museo Civico Goffredo Bellini also houses the G.B. Tosio Parish Museum of Sacred Art. This museum within a museum displays a collection of precious objects of sacred art, including paintings, vestments, painted statues, goldsmiths, chalices, reliquaries, and candlesticks. It also features rare 16th-century wooden sculptures, all of which originate from the adjacent ancient church of Sant'Andrea, built in the late Lombard Gothic style.
