From 1876, the Museo civico di Lodi was housed in the former convent adjacent to the church of San Filippo. It preserved numerous works of the Lodi artist Callisto Piazza, as well as two important paintings by Francesco Hayez.

The Museo civico di Lodi also had an archaeological section that housed numerous finds from Laus Pompeia. In addition, it had a Risorgimento section and an important ceramics section, which was a classic element of local craftsmanship.

The collection of the Museo civico di Lodi included numerous works by anonymous Lodi painters. It also had a painting by Bartolomeo Bononi, an Adoration of the Magi by fra' Sollecito Arisi, a canvas with the Apparition of Jesus Christ to Saint Mary Magdalene, and the banner of the Confraternity of San Bassiano.
