The Museo Civico "Antonino Olmo" is a significant historical site, being one of the oldest civic museums in the province of Cuneo. It was inaugurated in 1913 and has since been a repository of the history and art of Savigliano and its illustrious personalities. The museum is named after Antonino Olmo, a local scholar and honorary director of the structure for over 40 years.
The Museo Civico "Antonino Olmo" is housed in an old Franciscan convent, which was built between 1661 and 1670. This convent was occupied by monks until 1866, adding a layer of historical and cultural significance to the museum. The building follows the scheme of Franciscan convents spread in the province since the Middle Ages, especially in the distribution of internal spaces and in the simple but harmonious architectural forms.
In May 2002, the Gipsoteca Calandra, a part of the Museo Civico "Antonino Olmo", was reopened to visitors with a new functional and more modern layout. This section of the museum houses a significant collection of plaster casts donated by Elena Calandra, the daughter of the sculptor Davide Calandra. The updated layout enhances the visitor experience, allowing a better appreciation of the artworks.
