The Museo archeologico della Valle Sabbia, located in Gavardo, was founded in 1956 by the Associazione Museo Gruppo Grotte Gavardo. It was later transferred to the municipality and since 2004, it has been established as the Gavardese museum institution, a functional entity of the Municipality of Gavardo. This museum offers a continuously evolving picture of our knowledge regarding the Prehistory and History of the human communities of the Valle Sabbia, including some neighboring realities.

Paleontological Room

The museum's exhibition path focuses on the main findings in the area starting with a paleontological room. In this room, in addition to the collection of fossils, visitors can observe the Pleistocene fauna found inside the karst cave of Buco del Frate in Prevalle. This provides a unique opportunity to delve into the prehistoric era and understand the evolution of life in this region.

Bronze Age Pile-Dwelling Settlements

The museum pays particular attention to the important group of Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlements of Lucone di Polpenazze. This site, thanks to its unique environmental conditions, has yielded many artifacts made from organic materials. These artifacts provide a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived in these settlements during the Bronze Age.

Growing Collections

The museum's collections are continuously growing thanks to the research and excavations carried out by the Museum in agreement with the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Lombardy and in collaboration with the Associazione Gruppo Grotte Gavardo, with volunteering. This ensures that the museum's exhibits are always up-to-date and reflect the latest findings in the field of archaeology.
