Burg Maur is a small castle situated in the quaint village of Maur, nestled in the district of Uster in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. This historical site, built around 1250, offers a glimpse into the past with its sturdy stone walls and unique architectural features. The castle was initially constructed as a square residential tower with sides measuring 8.9 meters and built on 1.40 meter thick foundations made of boulders and hewn corner blocks.
In 1974/75, the castle underwent extensive renovations and was converted into a museum. Since 1976, it has been home to the Herrliberger Collection and part of the local museum Mühle in a permanent exhibition. This transformation has allowed visitors to explore the castle's rich history and appreciate the art and culture of the region.
