The Musée de la Mine is a unique museum located in Cagnac-les-Mines, in the Tarn region of Occitanie. The museum is situated on the site of the former Campgrand mine shaft, which was part of the Carmaux coal basin. This location gives visitors a unique insight into the history and workings of the mining industry in this region.
Established in 1989, four years after the closure of the two mine shafts, the Musée de la Mine has been managed by the Tarn departmental conservation office since 2007. This ensures that the museum is maintained to a high standard and that the history of the mining industry in the region is preserved for future generations.
The Musée de la Mine features an impressive collection of mining machinery and tools, providing a comprehensive look at the tools of the trade. Additionally, a mine gallery dug by former miners allows visitors to immerse themselves in the work of the miners without any danger. This hands-on experience provides a unique perspective on the life and work of miners.
